Marcus Kapteyn - Clinical AssociateMScPT
Registered Physiotherapist, Acupuncture, Level 3 orthopedics, CAFCI
Marcus completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology at Calvin College in Grand Rapids Michigan in 2007 prior to completing his Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at McMaster University in 2010. He recently joined the Kamloops team in November 2013 and is currently working toward completing his intermediate manual therapy exam in March of 2015. In June 2015 he completed a functional dry needling course allowing him to do intramuscular stimulation (IMS) as part of his clinical practice.
Marcus has worked primarily in an outpatient orthopaedic setting very similar to that at Kamloops Physiotherapy for the entirety of his career. He has treated a variety of different patients with varying musculoskeletal conditions. His joy in this profession comes from helping his patients return to the activities which they hold dear to them and giving them the power to manage injuries themselves. Marcus is persistently trying to advance his skills as a clinician as he is currently in the middle of pursuing his Diploma of Advance Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Therapy. In 2013, Marcus completed his certification of Anatomical Acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. He has also taken various courses for soft tissue release and therapeutic taping.
Marcus and his wife recently moved to Kamloops in September 2012 from Ontario in pursuit of adventure and open skies. He is very much enjoying his time here and when he is not studying, he can be found playing hockey, camping at Adam's lake (in the summer of course), or running around downtown with his dog.
Marcus is passionate about having people understand the conditions they are dealing with so, not only can they be an active participant in its resolution, but can help to keep it from coming back again.
