Vestibular Rehabilitation is an exercise-based approach for the treatment of dizziness and balance problems. After careful assessment and identification of the factors triggering the episodes of dizziness, appropriate techniques may be carried out to reduce current symptoms and/or an exercise program will be designed for each patient. This exercise regime is based on the rationale that repeated exposure will decrease the nervous system's sensitivity to the stimuli.
Balance and disequilibrium problems in the elderly have been shown to respond well to individualized programs including progressive balance retraining, specific stretching and strengthening techniques.
