Kamloops is centrally located within BC’s interior and is a short 3 ½ hour drive from Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. The Kamloops Airport has regular flights between Kamloops and Vancouver, Calgary and Victoria. Kamloops also boasts Thompson Rivers University, with 140 programs to choose from. At Kamloops Physiotherapy, there are a variety of options for clinical mentorship within many different areas. We have a strong emphasis on orthopaedic manual therapy, but we also welcome diversity in our therapists and their practice. At Kamloops Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre, there are also opportunities for career growth outside of your clinical practice. There are opportunities to mentor physiotherapy students and to take on leadership roles within the clinic management.
Our mentorship program is led by our clinic owner, John Howick. John has over 35 years of experience as a physiotherapist in private practice. John balances his management role as owner with a continued passion for mentoring other physiotherapists and treating patients with complex chronic pain and movement dysfunction. Our mentorship program involves the following:
- Weekly meetings with John Howick or another clinical member to review clinical scenarios or presentations that have come up during the week.
- Practical sessions aimed at progressing therapists through their orthopaedic levels
- Regular mentorship meetings in your chosen area of practice
- Education in ultrasound imaging theory and practice. Practical sessions involving Realtime Ultrasound Imaging of abdominal and pelvic floor muscle biofeedback and retraining. Potential for mentorship in musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging is also available.
- Regular clinic inservices and practical group sessions led by our Education Coordinator
- 1:1 supervised mentorship is available for therapists looking to build the necessary hours for AIM/FCAMPT exams
- Mentorship in caseload building strategies and caseload management
What we offer…
- Employment as a Commissioned Employee at a pay rate on-par with that of other BC physiotherapists working as self-employed contractors. Full-time therapists can make between $80,000 and $150,000 per year.
- 4% vacation pay to start, with an increase to 6% after 1 year, and 8% after 5 years of service.
- Regularly scheduled mentorship sessions
- Regular group inservices and education updates from our Education Coordinator
- 4 weeks vacation entitlement to start, which increases over time. Earned Days Off (EDO) based on average number of hours worked per week
- Opportunity to quickly build a caseload, with an average of 10-20 new patients per week.
- 45-minute 1:1 assessment blocks with 30-minute 1:1 follow-ups and opportunity to build breaks into your day as a new therapist.
- Regular social activities within and outside of work
- A highly-efficient reception team that looks after all billing, scheduling, room cleaning and schedule management.
- Opportunities to take on leadership roles withing the clinic, including Clinic Director, mentorship, marketing and education roles
